Overview of SF2UF Bridge to Baccalaureate Student Activities
Fall, Program Year 1 (typically as a sophomore at SFC)
- Begin receiving the SF2UF fellowship stipend and tuition scholarship.
- Participate in mentored research in a lab with a UF faculty preceptor for 12-15 h/wk.
- Enroll in normal AA degree program coursework.
- Enroll in Entering Research course (ISC2931).
- Participate in the weekly SF2UF Research Scholarship Seminar.
- Receive supplemental academic advising.
- Attend local, regional, and/or national scientific conference(s).
Spring, Program Year 1 (typically as a sophomore at SFC)
- Continue receiving the SF2UF fellowship stipend and tuition scholarship.
- Participate in mentored research in a lab with the UF faculty preceptor for 12-15 h/wk.
- Enroll in normal AA degree program coursework.
- Participate in the weekly SF2UF Research Scholarship Seminar.
- Apply to transfer to UF and receive supplemental academic advising.
- Attend local, regional, and/or national scientific conference(s).
Summer, Program Year 1 (typically as a rising junior)
- Continue receiving the SF2UF fellowship stipend.
- Not enroll in any college courses.
- Complete SF2UF workshops and short courses.
- Participate in mentored research in a lab with the UF faculty preceptor for 32-36 h/wk.
- Participate in the weekly SF2UF Research Scholarship Seminar.
Fall/Spring, Program Year 2 (typically as a junior at UF)
- Continue receiving the SF2UF fellowship stipend and tuition scholarship.
- Participate in mentored research in a lab with the UF preceptor for 16-18 h/wk.
- Enroll in BS degree program upper division courses.
- Participate in the weekly SF2UF Research Scholarship Seminar
- Attend local, regional, and/or national scientific conference(s)
- Participate in assigned academic and professional development workshops.
- Attend national scientific conference(s).
Summer, Program Year 2 (typically as a rising senior)
- Continue receiving SF2UF fellowship stipend.
- Not enroll in any UF courses.
- Complete SF2UF workshops and short courses.
- Participate full-time in mentored research with the UF preceptor and/or in “extramural” research at another university, research institute, or biotechnology company.
- Participate in the weekly SF2UF Research Scholarship Seminar (except while participating in extramural research, if applicable).
Fall/Spring, Program Year 3 (as a senior at UF)
- Continue receiving a stipend (funded by the faculty preceptor and/or their college).
- Participate in mentored research in a lab with the UF preceptor for 16-18 h/wk.
- Enroll in BS degree program upper division courses.
- Participate in the weekly SF2UF Research Scholarship Seminar
- Attend local, regional, and/or national scientific conference(s).
- Participate in assigned academic and professional development workshops.
- Attend national scientific conference(s).
- Apply to at least five PhD graduate programs.
